There are two Republicans running for the Island County sheriff seat.
Rick Felici is the incumbent county sheriff who first won the seat in 2018 when Mark Brown retired. Felici previously worked in the office as the chief criminal deputy and has served in the Navy and as a law enforcement officer. Since becoming sheriff, he has pursued a vision of public safety that includes COVID safety and enforcing Gov. Inslee’s mandates, improving support services for community members struggling with addiction or mental illness, preventing school shootings, and leading with a focus on accountability and both de-escalation and equity training.
The other candidate in this race, Lane Campbell, also ran against Felici in 2018 for this same position. Campbell has worked in law enforcement in the county for most of his life. He is running on a platform that emphasizes utilizing his past experience and making the office more responsive to the public. If elected, he also wants to expand the size of the police force and move the county away from a compassionate treatment and prevention approach to reducing crime in our communities.
In this race with no progressive candidate, vote for Rick Felici or write in a candidate of your choice for sheriff of Island County.

Because of a Tim Eyman initiative, the Legislature is required to submit any bill it passes that closes tax loopholes or raises revenue to a non-binding advisory vote. The Legislature had a historically productive 2022 session, resulting in several advisory votes appearing on the ballot. We hope the Legislature will change the law to remove these meaningless measures in the future.
